THE PLAYER’S FIELD NOTES

Azeroth Survivors Beginner Guide

Learn the original game’s controls, run structure and early decisions, with clear distinctions between temporary upgrades and persistent progression.

Original game · Current menu controls inspected in V0.90.0 · Run mechanics also described in the 9–14 October recordings.

Move your character while its combat abilities fire automatically. On each level-up, choose a new spell or improve one you already have; a run can hold up to six spells. Gold buys temporary jewellery, while boss equipment and class talent progress give later runs a lasting starting advantage.

Start with movement and card choices

The V0.90.0 starting screen lists WASD or holding both mouse buttons to move, 1/2/3 to choose a card, R to reroll, and Enter to start. Reroll availability and cost should be read from your current run; the shortcut alone does not imply unlimited rerolls.

Attacks are automatic in the original narrated footage. You do not need a WoW quest rotation or an existing WoW character. Choose a class on the main screen, select the available zone, then enter Elwynn Forest.

Make your early choices work together

A level-up offers three spell or upgrade cards. Adding a new spell takes one of your six spell places; choosing an existing spell strengthens it. Read the actual changes on the card rather than assuming that a familiar WoW spell has its original effect.

Enemies also drop gold. Caches spend that gold on run equipment such as rings, trinkets and an amulet. The two equipment layers explain which of these you keep.

For a concrete direction, the Holy Shield Paladin example pairs damage reduction and healing with retaliation. It is a recorded example, not a promise that the required cards will appear in a fresh run.

Know what ends the zone

Elwynn Forest’s V0.90.0 menu lists Hogger at 3:00, Mother Fang at 6:00, Rhahk’Zor at 9:00, Mr. Smite at 12:00 and Edwin VanCleef at 16:00. Defeating the final boss clears the zone; the menu names that defeat as the condition for opening Duskwood.

Earlier videos use different timings, including a 20-minute finale. Use the schedule displayed by your build instead of combining the recordings into one timetable. A completed zone on one class does not automatically mean the other classes have completed it.

Return to the menus before starting again

Use Collection to equip the permanent pieces you have found and Talents to spend the points your class has earned. Your run spells and jewellery start over; the permanent equipment and talent progress are a different layer.

Read the talent progression rules and keep an exported save before changing devices or replacing a build.
